Its called an "Inukshuk". They have been placed all through the Canadian Arctic by the Inuit eskimos. They are markers strewn across the barren Arctic to guide travelers since the beginning of time. Or, at least the time of early eskimos.

Or at least since the last big wind knocked down a bunch of 'em from the last expensive photo shoot.

A lot of Canadians are disgusted with that choice for a logo. There's nothing uniformly Canadian about it, and certainly nothing British Columbian about it.

You wouldn't believe the petty disputes the olympics are spawning in local media. Somebody weaves a basket, we need an olympic event for it. Somebody floats across a pond in a rain barrel, we need an olympic event for it.

The non-circulating legal tender commemorative coins will have a face value of $25, a Canadian first.
Interesting.

Is there any premium for the "Inukshuk" maple?

I am not sure how much. I have not found anyone selling these yet.

I've got a couple hundred of the 1999 small variety with a 20 year "thingie" stamped into it. That's JUST the way CANADA does it. They add to their coins.

They should have covered up part of the hag on the other side, not the beautiful maple leaf.
